By now, I trust you’re convinced that you must truly get going on generating monthly donors.

Here are three simple tips to get started:

1. Ask your donors to join

Is it really that simple? Yes, it is. If you ask them, they will come. How else are donors going to know that you have a program and you’d like them to join this really convenient way to support your mission?

2. Make it easy to find

Occasionally, an organization calls me and tells me that they’re having trouble growing their program. So, the first thing I do is look at their web site. And typically, I can’t find where to join their monthly donor program.

Well, guess what? Your donors are not mind readers. You have to make it easy!

So, what does that mean? The easier you make it, the more donors will join. So, put a picture with a ink to your monthly donor sign up page right on your home page. Put a link to your monthly giving in your pull down menu for ways to give. Make it the first option on your donation page. Make it the only option.

The more you put it out there, the more likely your donor is going to find it and the more likely your donor is to join!

3. Have other donors tell why they joined your program

Donors love hearing from other donors. Where monthly giving might take a little extra “push”, because it’s asking the donors to make a commitment, the more relevant you can make it for others, the more successful you’ll be.

So, use other monthly donor’s testimonials as much as you can. Donors will identify and say, wow, if this person can do it, well, so can I! What am I waiting for?

How do you go about getting testimonials from monthly donors? You ask them. It’s typically best done by calling them to thank them for their ongoing monthly support.

Then you ask them if they’d like to share why they’ve decided to give in that way and you ask them if its okay to use this in your appeals and on your web site? Most monthly donors will be honored you did so.

What do you have to lose by asking? It does not cost you anything and it will help you generate more monthly donors who will go on supporting your mission for many years to come.
